Cast steel is a metal that has undergone the process of casting. Both steel and iron can be used to cast metal parts. The steel used in the casting process is a ferrous metal comprised mostly of iron atoms. It can be distinguished from iron by the level of carbon it contains. Cast steel contains less carbon than iron (0.12% vs. 2%), making it relatively more malleable than iron.
